Can you point me to where it says, or at least implies, we shouldn't use IMDB as a reliable source? - JackofOz ( talk) 11:03, 8 April 2008 (UTC) Reply It is official policy. But IMDB can appear in the list of external links. ![]() No fact in Wikipedia should ever point to IMDB as a source. But since you keep on denying it, if IMDB doesn't qualify as a reliable source, why is it used as a source for virtually ALL the actors we have articles on, including Cornel Wilde? - JackofOz ( talk) 06:19, 8 April 2008 (UTC) Reply IMDB is generally listed as an external link, which is different from it being used as a source. I take no position on that issue I'm just interested in letting our readers know that there is a discrepancy in the public record about where he was born and what his birth name was. If a significant number of sources report him as having been born in Slovakia, including the German version of Wikipedia, I'm in no position to say they're wrong, or they're right. My sole interest is in ensuring we have a complete and accurate picture of this, or any other, subject of one of our articles. I have no interest in contradicting the NYT or any other source. I hold no brief for IMDB or any other source. ![]() Quatloo ( talk) 01:18, 8 April 2008 (UTC) Reply Once again, it is not I who am claiming anything. If you do not have a reliable source for your claim, you should not include it in the article, especially if your intent is to contradict the New York Times. JackofOz ( talk) 01:12, 8 April 2008 (UTC) Reply IMDB does not qualify as a WP:Reliable source. If it were the only source that said he was born outside the USA, I'd be a little sceptical, but it's far from the only source. It may not prove to be accurate, but it certainly isn't original research. I can't see why the IMDB note is not relevant. Quatloo ( talk) 01:05, 8 April 2008 (UTC) Reply I'm not claiming anything, simply reporting what other sources have said. IMDB's position is not relevant, it cannot be used as a source. JackofOz ( talk) 08:45, 7 April 2008 (UTC) Reply If your claim is that the New York Times is incorrect, surely a suitable citation can be found. This all needs to be looked at and included as appropriate. His mother's surname was Vojtech, a very common Czech or Slovak name. IMDB says he was born in Hungary, and that he was of Hungarian-Czech parentage. His father’s surname was Weisz, so it stands to reason that, no matter where he was born, he would have had the surname Weisz at birth, and "Cornelius Louis Wilde" came later, and "Cornel Wilde" later still. This seems to square with the US Census info, that also says he was born in Hungary. And it also says that his family did not move to the USA till 1920, when he was 4 or 5. German Wikipedia and various others sources say he was born "Kornel Weisz", in Prievidza, now in Slovakia, but at that time part of the Hungarian part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Learn all about how you can boost your prizes with our Power Play guide! Matching the Powerball will also give you access to the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 9th prize categories, which means that even if you match only the Powerball number, you still get a prize. The record-breaking Powerball jackpot up for grabs is separate from a $1.334bn Mega Millions lottery prize claimed in September. The US Powerball lottery features nine prize divisions players need five winning numbers from a drum of 1-69 and the Powerball, chosen from a separate drum of 1-26, to win the jackpot prize. The delayed draw was performed early on Tuesday “under the supervision of lottery security officials and independent auditors”, the California Lottery said. According to the California Lottery, security requirements “ must be met by all 48 lotteries before a drawing can occur”. Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as in Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The winning numbers were 10-33-41-47-56, and the Powerball was 10. Officials did not disclose which participating lottery it was, citing a policy against doing so. The Powerball draw unveiled on Tuesday was delayed from Monday because a participating lottery had trouble processing ticket sales. Enough tickets were sold for Saturday’s unwon prize of $1.6bn that 62% of the 292.2m possible number combinations were covered. Millions of Americans bought tickets as the jackpot rose over multiple draws in the last month. The odds of doing so are 1 in 292m, which means it’s not unusual for no one to win the prize until a growing jackpot attracts an increasing number of players. To win the top prize, players must buy a $2 ticket and match all five white balls as well as one red Powerball. Since the last Powerball prize on 3 August there had been 40 drawings without a winner – tying the record set last year, according to the Iowa-based Multi-State Lottery Association, which administers the Powerball. Winners more often opt for the lump sum, which for Tuesday’s jackpot was $997.6m.Īll winnings will be subject to federal taxes, reducing the payout by more than one-third, and many states also tax lottery winnings in addition. In PR, it can be useful in starting media list research to save time for PR teams, in generating fodder for team brainstorming sessions, or for creating rough drafts of basic writing projects. Yes, the use of AI in most professions is inevitable. The problem for PR professionals using AI is that reporters simply won’t cover a story that has been written before. ![]() It can pass as believable English but it doesn't have the impact or emotional sway that a talented human writer can inject. A good writer knows all the rules of writing and grammar-and a great writer knows when to break them for effect.ĪI takes in existing writing, data, language and grammar rules and spits those elements back out in new configurations. It’s the rhythm of the language, the use of alliteration, and the strategic push and pull between longer sentences and shorter ones. There are certain creative skills that even good human writers never master-and only the best ones can. Effective pitching requires an understanding of nuance, timing and context. So it's worthwhile to continue investing in those human skills. Striking the Right BalanceĪI can be a great tool to improve efficiencies, but the skills that make for a truly great PR professional are uniquely human. Cision recently appointed its first executive director for AI strategy to oversee new innovations, and rising platforms like PRophet use AI to build media lists and draft pitch materials. For example, MuckRack’s PressPal.ai leverages PR-informed data to help draft press releases when prompted, scan for keywords and recommend potential media targets. PR-specific companies are constantly innovating to improve efficiency for PR agencies and practitioners. Google Analytics is a go-to resource for most marketing professionals, and it’s powered by AI. ChatGPT was a viral phenom, but we've been using tech tools in PR for quite some time now. Tools exist to help with reporter research, generate media coverage alerts, and even fuel creative brainstorming sessions. ![]() How AI Can Help PR ProfessionalsĪI can be useful in certain cases to make PR work more efficiently. If your blog posts, press releases or social media posts are riddled with inaccuracies or errors, misguided reliance on AI can open your brand up to embarrassment at best and increased liabilities at worst. In an era of increasing public scrutiny, distrust of the media and lack of faith in institutions, these types of mistakes can seriously harm a brand and chip away at the integrity of an otherwise respected news organization. The tech news publication was forced to issue major corrections earlier this year, due to multiple inaccuracies stemming from the outlet’s covert use of AI in its news writing. But in practice, misuse of AI tools as a way to cut corners simply isn’t worth the risk of dramatic errors or syntax mistakes that can irreparably damage your overall brand.Ĭonsider the case of CNET. Newsrooms are short-staffed, marketing budgets are tightening, and a magic bullet to improve writing efficiency would be a welcome reprieve. Free content is widely expected by the public, and news organizations need to turn a profit while still paying journalists what they’re worth. We are working in high-stress, fast-paced industries in increasingly uncertain economic times. The temptation to turn to AI tools for content marketers, journalists and PR writers is understandable. Around the same time, New York Times reporter Kevin Roose experienced an unsettling interaction with the bot, which professed its “love” for him, expressed a desire to become a human being, and pressed him to admit he wasn’t happy in his real-life marriage. One day a co-worker informed me that my boss was really sore because a complaint, submitted over his head, had caused him much discomfort at the hands of his superiors. Similar in structure to a supported scaffold, a mobile scaffold is set atop castors to allow workers mobility across the worksite.Ī mobile scaffold is inherently not as stable as support scaffolding, so you should always lock it in place to mitigate hazards. Supported scaffolding uses a modular design: workers can easily construct it and add additional levels as the job dictates.Īdditionally, worksites integrate supported scaffolding for building deconstruction.
